1000 Things Before Kindergarten
Welcome to 1000 Things Before Kindergarten at the Galax-Carroll Regional Library!
The concept is simple, and the rewards are priceless! Do an activity (read a book, sing a song, etc.) with your infant, toddler, or preschooler. The goal is to have completed 1000 Things before your little one starts kindergarten. Of course, you can repeat favorite activities!
How to Participate
- Sign up any child aged birth to five years at the Galax or Carroll County Public Library. After signing up you will get a folder & log.
- Read a book or do an activity: after every book read or "Thing" completed with your child, check or fill-in a bubble on your child's log (download a printable copy of the log).
- After you finish the first 100 "Things" on the log, come to the library and your child will receive a FREE, brand-new book to KEEP. Then, for each 100 "Things" completed your child will get another book to keep.
- Then get another activity log and keep tracking your things. Your goal is to reach 1000 Things Before Kindergarten. This program will take anywhere from a few months to a few years, it is self-paced and will depend on how often you and your child do activities together.
- After your child has completed all 1000 "Things," your child will receive a small prize, a certificate, and will be featured in the library's 1000 Things Before Kindergarten Hall of Fame!
