Library Board
The Board of Trustees of the Galax-Carroll Regional Library consists of six volunteer members, three from Carroll County and three from the City of Galax. They are appointed to serve for terms of four years by the governing bodies of the county and the city, chosen from citizens at large and with reference to their fitness for office. Regular meetings are held bi-monthly, in July, September, November, January, March, and May.
General duties of Library Board trustees:
- To hire a capable, trained librarian as Director.
- To attend board meetings regularly.
- To secure adequate funds.
- To approve expenditure of library funds.
- To review statistics for circulation and library events.
- To determine library policies.
- To know the interests of the community.
- To plan future growth and priorities of the library.
- To guide the Director on special projects and concerns.
- To become familiar with what constitutes good library service.
- To become familiar with library aid programs and standards.
- To support library legislation in the state and nation.
