How Do I?
Galax-Carroll Regional Library partners with Wythe-Grayson Regional Library to provide Mountain Network Catalog Consortium library card privileges. Anyone 18 or older may register for a free library card by presenting photo identification and proof of current address, followed by completing a registration form.
Identification can be established through:
- any current picture identification issued by a governmental agency
- a current driver’s license
- a school identification card
- a military identification card
- a passport
- a birth certificate
- a social security card
Residence is verified by:
- a piece of mail received at current street address with a recent postmark, such as
- a utility bill, a bank statement, or a letter
- a lease agreement
- a personal check with name and current address imprinted on it
For registration of a child under 18, a parent or guardian must have a library card in good standing, show identification and verification of residence, sign the child’s application, and assume responsibility for materials borrowed and for any fees or fines on the child’s card.
Library cards are issued for three years and can be renewed for free by showing verification of identity and current address.
To replace a lost or misplaced library card, there is a $2.00 replacement fee. Lost or stolen cards should be reported as soon as possible to prevent unauthorized use of the library card account.
Please have your library card present for scanning to check out items (smartphone scans do not work with library circulation scanners) or to use public library computers.
Borrowing privileges may be suspended, revoked, or denied to any library borrower who reveals willful or careless disregard for the protection and return of borrowed material or for the evasion of payment for assessed damage to Library property.
Borrowing Privileges are available at all public libraries in the Mountain Network Catalog Consortium: Carroll County Public Library (Hillsville), Galax Public Library, Fries Public Library, Grayson County Public Library (Independence), Rural Retreat Public Library, Wythe County Public Library (Wytheville), and Whitetop Public Library.

The Galax-Carroll Regional Library provides Interlibrary Loan service for patrons who request a nonfiction title not listed in the Mountain Network Catalog Consortium catalog. Completing an Interlibrary Loan request form at the library circulation desk will speed the search for the requested item, but availability is not guaranteed.
Time involved to obtain the requested title depends upon locating a library that owns the title, availability of the item at the lending library, and time to mail the title from the lending library to the Galax-Carroll Regional Library.
This service is available to all patrons whose records are clear of fines and overdue items. Number of items requested by an individual patron may be restricted by the library due to staffing issues.
The Galax-Carroll Regional Library charges a flat postage rate for each item requested as determined by the Library Board. Any fines for overdue materials are the patron’s responsibility.
Meeting rooms in both libraries are available for use by approved groups. Call the circulation desk to inquire. Reservation form must be completed before reservation is approved. Any fee due or key to be picked up for after-hours must be done before meeting room can be used.
Please download our Library Meeting Space Policy to see full details.
